23 January 2010: No better occasion to dress than the New Year

It's been a while since I last updated. New Years was a mayhem of parties, feasts and presents. We had a very good time - meeting some of you and helping with the gifts you all gave. Thank you!

To ease back into the new year, (never slack with dressing!), we are starting with a New Year Sale. All items would be 30% off from now till 24th Feb (my birthday...after which I'm flying elsewhere for a bit). No discounts on custom orders. Discount is only applicable on the website.

January 2010
Style is one of my favourite mags... this surprised me :)

13 December 09: December madness.

Our Robinsons counter ends today when the apparel comes in to take over the accessories at Centrepoint atrium. Although the counter opened during my final year exams and was stressing me out like crazy preparing for it, it's been a great learning curve for us, and a really fun and enjoyable experience. Robinsons have been very kind to allocate us such a prime location. We were actually in agreement with Isetan Wisma too for Christmas week but sales were so fab we didn't think we could make the stock-count required at Isetan - that's the reason why we cancelled it last week. Maybe next year after we've had more time to prepare you can expect to see us there or somewhere else!

Thanks to all who came and took away something :) You were great.

So as I was saying... Sewperlative will be part of BlueCanyonCo's annual private sale at a ballroom in Grand Plaza Park Hotel. Sewperlative customers are invited : ) Bring your friends and walk-in, they'll hold your bags at the counter so take your valuable belongings and do your last minute christmas shopping! Geri from BCC has promised imported brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, Junk Food, Juicy Couture, Coach and several other U.S brands like BCBG, Guess, Nanette Lepore, Catherine Malandrino, Victoria Secret Pink and many more. Discounts are up to 50% or more found at US retail stores!

Y'know how they say shopping is better in US because prices there are so much lower? Well you can expect even better prices at this sale than there because she imports these through special connections :D

I won't be there, my Tzarist partner Michelle will be running the show for me. After today, when I bring back my holding inventory from both my Robinsons counters, I will probably suffer cardiac arrest from having so many so hair accessories in my home. So you can expect really majorly slashed prices off leftover goods and past season stock.

Most of my bargain pieces at Fashbash were snapped up really quickly so act fast :D

When: December 19th 2009, Saturday 12pm to 8pm
Where: Coleman Room on Level 1 at Grand Plaza Park Hotel on 10 Coleman Street (In between Funan Centre and Peninsula Plaza) 1 minute walk from City Hall MRT

*Cash only event with many ATM locations nearby.

10 December 09: A little bit more before I go

Fashbash was awesome. I liked it very much because it wasn't hot, stuffy and crowded. I liked that I was surrounded by beautiful designer chiffon dresses, vintage dresses and some really pretty handmade jewellery. The reason why I love such opportunities is because I get to meet new people, put faces to names and get a good feel of what people like and don't.

Massive, massive load of materials came today in succession. Over the next few days I will try to upload some of the designs before I go to Tokyo on Tues so if you have any orders hopefully I'll be able to send it out before I leave :) But if you are curious, drop by Robinsons @ Centrepoint because it'll be our last three days there!

Ooh, I also have one more piece of good news - Sewperlative has been picked up by Herworld Brides! Issue is coming out in Mar 10 :)

We've also been invited to be part of a private sale this coming 19th December for some last minute Christmas shopping. It'll be at Grand Plaza Park Hotel, more details next time!

4 December 09: A little bird told me

It's December! I love waking up to rain...I'm trying to find time to upload the newer designs but to find us do come to Fashbash tomorrow! It's two days at Red Dot Museum - Fashbash & MAAD where you'd find lots of inspiring designers and entrepreneurs, so show us some love :D

It's going to be a great time and place to settle all your Christmas presents. We'll be having 10-20% discount off regular favourites. Plus, as a gift for celebrating our wonderful 7 months we'd be giving some serious bargains on selected designs such as....

It really doesn't get any better.

Ooh before I forget a while back we were featured by Weddingchicks here :)

28 November 09: Dazzling your way through

Like our new website? :D

We went through at least a dozen prototypes before settling on this one. For now we are uploading our standard catalogue for you to pick and choose. In two weeks time we'll have more of our fanciful and limited fascinators/ clips/ hairbands coming up. When the new year comes we'll also be unveiling a new bridal collection - exciting!

In the past month we've had an early Christmas :) Parcel after parcel of feathers come through the mail like gifts to make our inventory more colourful. More lovely designs for you to choose from. We don't necessarily upload each design so do head down to any of our stockists or email us if you are looking for anything particular.

We also have a very nice counter at Robinsons Centrepoint Atrium from now till 13th Dec. We are situated right in front of Cortina Watches next to BCBG Maxzaria's counter. We have a very extensive collection there - do drop by to visit and say hi to one of our girls!

We are also busy preparing for FASHBASH in a week. Don't forget! It's over the entire weekend of 5-6 December at RED DOT MUSEUM and its going to rock with many other local designers. As usual most items will be discounted, keep updated of perks and specials on our facebook page.

17 November 09: In the crunch of things

We just put up a very extensive range of our items at Robinsons at Raffles City yesterday. Meanwhile, we are busying with custom orders and also preparing for December festivities.

Do note 5-6 December on your calendar because we'll be a part of FASHBASH Goes Two-too. It'll be held at Red Dot Museum over two days and I heard its going to be so fabulous because so many other local designers and vendors will be there. Fashbash is always a flea-treat. We'll be launching lots of new clips and hairbands there as part of our Christmas Gift Specials! : )

One more in 6-19 Nov Issue of CHIC

9 November 2009: Awesome Fabulous

I finally remembered to take photos!

Thanks to every one who came down to Fleatique Saturday! It was good to meet each one of you, sales were fab and we had lots of fun. Also thanks to Michelle, who was a sweetheart and looking pretty gorgeous with her hairclip the whole night.

Sewperlative will be available at Robinsons @ Raffles City from next Monday (16/11) onwards : ) We'll have our biggest collection there for three weeks.

Our hairclip has also been spotted on Seventeen, Oct Issue. This is a bit late because I didn't know and took a while to get my hands on the magazine!

1 November 2009: Out of breath

Some absolutely dreamy hairclips this week in pink, white, violet and wine, with delicate organza leaves and mesh details. Also new batches of feathers are coming in every other day - am busy preparing for year end festivities before I go off to Tokyo.

Sewperlative will be part of Robinson's in-store Fashion Show on 18th Nov! Thereafter you will also be able to pick up our pieces from their Raffles Place & Centrepoint malls. We promise you more surprises in December ;)

For those interested in special requests, we are closing custom orders on 6 Nov. We will accept custom orders when January comes. Catalog pieces remain ready to be shipped within 2 days as per usual :)

Check out the new labels that we've printed just in time for Flea-tique:

Do take note that the location of our Night Flea on 7 Nov has been moved one street to 8Q:

It's in less than week. Awfully excited. We will be bringing our nicest pieces plus giving away gifts for early birds who buy something from us. Remember its from 7 pm to 1 am on a Saturday night. Bookmark your calendar and we'll see you there.

25 October 2009: Pin-ning for...

Sewperlative has been very happy and very busy. We've come up with a small range of brooches - because so many of you requested for it! Promise if you love whatever we have made you will love these even more. While we set up a new website and a proper catalog for it, you can find it at any of our stockists beginning from tomorrow : )

17 October 2009: Tzarist

As some of you may already know, I have a handmade jewellery line at Tzarist, my first passion & love coming close to 5 years now. Recently I've decided to merge feathers with jewellery, something that has already been done before of course, but I'd like to think my interpretation of it is unique :) So here is a sneak preview:

Feathery Ivory

12 October 09: Sewperlative Spied in...

Cleo October, 2009

08 October 09: Good news come in a bundle

We have started working on our new materials and apart from one-offs, added a few staples to our catalogue. These dyed peacock feathers are all the more fabulous close up because they are partially shimmery at their eyes- a natural effect from the different textures of the original feathers.

Recently also just completed these custom ultra romantic brooches and clips for Natalie's bridemaids. Am so happy to be of a little help to a long time customer : ) I should have taken the photos of my past wedding custom collections but I always forget -.-

Still, happy and thankful to be noticed here and here.

Lastly, Sewperlative is excited to see you at the next Night Fleatique :)

Venue: Singapore Arts Museum Courtyard
Date: 7 November 2009
Time: 7 pm to 1 am

P.S., some new goodies at Anthropology outlets.

28 September 09: All hail the majesty of the Peacock

Came home to a large parcel left waiting outside the door. This time, bleached peacock tails from New York in turquoise, gold, white. On top of that also got the softest, softest ostrich feather fringe boas and lady amherst pheasant tails. See the exotic asymmetrical details on each feather?

A new range of vibrant, chromatic hairclips available at Closet Affair.

20 September 09: CHIC Issue 5, 18 Sept

Zara really rocked the headband. Thanks Chrystal for the heads up >:)

10 September 09: New Toys

A small delivery of dyed guinea, turkey and schlappen feathers from Pennsylvania, USA came this week :) Especially love the soft-lavender spotted guineas.

Can't wait for the others to arrive.

02 September 09: Make it colour-full

Just so you know that new designs are still being brewing and pushed out of our home oven every day. We just turned four months old and what better way to mark anniversaries than to know that we're only few pieces away from crossing the 500th headband/clip mark ;)

26 August 09: Baby Clips

Custom Special - first time I'm making anything for a baby, and this is for Shirline's lovely one-year old! Miniature feathered hair clips that are only about 2.5" long. They are way adorable, feels surreal just looking at them.

22 August 09: Fan-Fascinators

Step by step, we are trying new styles. This time more jazz with new textures, mesh fabric, and more layering. More pomp, more glam, and definitely more lust. They look absolutely made for fairytales, but wearable too. Check them out under hairclips. Extravagance and detail as lamp posts, we will make my dream fascinators (which are large as a wedding cake) eventually, but its still a leap, so step by step :)

17 August 09: ELLE Sept 09

Sewperlative has been spotted in ELLE issue Sept 09! Credits to stylist Aida Dolrahim. It's a lovely photoshoot only wish the lighting showed the hairbands more clearly though...

Here are some others who are talking:

16 August 09: Nothing can be more exciting than

Fresh boxes from NYC. Look what I got this time round... a huge bundle of saddle fringe dyed Chinchilla feathers, twice the size of my face! So damn expensive but so worth the wait.

The prize of my new arrival this time would be the Mallard Duck ones. I have them in midnight and wine. All the feathers are two toned, glossy and subtle.

Also lots of thanks & kisses for coming down to the flea, we have lots of new goodies at Closet Affair & Soon Lee, do hop by to take a look!

08 August 09: Flea-tique @ Singapore Arts Musem, 11 am - 7 pm, National Day 9 Aug.

Do come and join us tomorrow at the flea! I probably won't take part in many when my school starts next week so enjoy the discounts now or never : ) I have plenty, plenty of new hairclips that I have been saving (they have not hit the shops yet), so do come down and check it out.

P.S., Thanks for all your support, every thing on this site can be mailed within 3 working days. Custom orders will have to join the queue of up to 2 weeks waiting period.

29 July 09: New loot!!

Long time due but finally here. Arrived at my boyfriend's house because I forgot he arranged it this time round.. no wonder!! :(

So new designs, and a restock of some original ones - like the popular Royal Blue Nagorie as well as in new colours!

I've also finally managed to get a 'hairclips' tab up and running. It's going to take forever to catalogue every single clip we have made and still making, so its much easier if you know what you want and just email us, anyway we don't keep many spares, every thing is freshly made : )

Another piece of good news is we are having another flea booth at Singapore Arts Museum on National Day!! From 11 am to 7 pm. It would be so good to see you there!

22 July 09: Thanks for all your orders and requests! If you were there at SAM, it was great to meet you! : ) I exhausted my entire box of namecards, whew.

We are in the midst of bringing more feathers, the delivery is late, so new items should be up sometime next week. We have new Nagorie colours, and the red pheasant heart ones that so many of you have been asking for. In the mean time, we've been working on our hairclips because they enjoyed such popularity at the flea... check at our stockists!

Sewperlative is trying to keep up with her orders. Hang in there!

01 July 09: Be home soon, promise.

I'll be taking a short break for the next two weeks - travelling to look for new materials and will come home with a trunk of new ideas and goodies for you. In the mean time, do remember to head down to the flea at SAM on 10th - 11th July. A good friend will be manning the booth for me, I'll be leaving all my hairbands with her, anything you want in advance do email me :)

27 June 09: Good news!

You can now find Sewperlative at SOON LEE, 56 Haji Lane Level 2. You won't be able to miss it if you follow the curious cartoons on the walls..

We have quite a nice and extensive collection there, especially some newer hairclips, so do pop by!

23 June 09: Flea-Tique Late Night Edition at Singapore Arts Museum.

Sewperlative is having our virgin flea! In conjunction with 'Nights Festival', there is going to be over 80 vendors, entertaining music performances and art showcases at SAM. Expect a variety of unique feather hairbands, plus exclusive one-of-a-kind types.

One good reason why you should come - the clips & hairbands will be launched at 10-30 percent discount off rack prices :D (and I won't do this often).

Dates: 10th(Fri) and 11th(Sat) July
Time: 7pm to 2am.
Location: Outdoors in SAM's Courtyard

And.. since I get so many questions about what birds the feathers fall off:

Well, do you really wanna know?

I can already see the fan and array on the birds. Even the common guinea fowl... how thick is his spotted coat! How gloriously beautiful Nature can be when left to its own devices : )

18 June 09: Still in the midst of creating content. Came home late last night to a new box of feathers. This is terrible - Have not even updated from the first batch and here comes the second!!

Sneak peek of some of my nagorie babies. Check back this weekend.

Meanwhile, do watch us at our new facebook group!

14 June 09: More feathers in all the rainbow colours plus different hues of each too.

Sewperlative ventures onto new textures - fabrics, paper and leafy sprouts? Not sure but they are cute. Now I need to collect more lace.

10 June 09: First box of many to come : ) This one arrived earlier than expected from NYC! My mom called me from work to say 'its here', and I couldn't sit still the whole day.

Just a sneak preview of what I've received and made immediately... quality pheasant feathers in natural gold and dyed turquoise. There's more - either check out the shop outlets this weekend or check back over next week when I start uploading more photos.

Divine impatience. Can't wait.

6 June 09: Sewperlative has started twiddling with hair clips. The sort you can tuck at your ear, or your hair at the back with a small twist. We'll put up a catalogue soon, but if you can't wait you can email us first ;)

We just ordered a few hundred packets more of feathers from the states... rolling out next month so BOOKMARK us and come back after coffee!

26 May 09: Yay! The website is slowly materializing and we have just launched our new collection of hairbands, 'Birds of Paradise' at four new shops.

You can find them at

  • Closet Affair @ Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Road #03-96
  • Anthropology @ The Scarlet Hotel, 33 Erskine Road #01-06/07
  • Anthropology @ 252 North Bridge Road #B1-77/78
  • Anthropology @ Leftfoot Anthropology, Holland Village, 16A Lorong Lambong

The Sewperlative website is up! Please bear with us as we are still in the midst of uploading the content (: Meanwhile, for any enquiries, kindly contact us at sewperlative@gmail.com

So hold on to those spending urges cause when we're all done, it's definitely not to be missed! After all, it's Sewperlative ;)
